In Dr. Ben Carsons book, America the Beautiful, Rediscovering What Made This Nation Great, he talks about a story from his childhood. His mom brought home a homeless man for dinner. They all sat down at their dinner table and shared a pot of chili. He said he and his family we’re happy to share and minister to this man.
He then asks what would happen what if the government had come in and taken our chili and fed this man? His family would have missed out on the opportunity to meet this man, feed him and minister to him.
Isn’t this what our government is doing? Aren’t they taking our money to feed the poor? How are they doing? What are they sharing with those in need? Are they investing in their lives for an eternal purpose?
I believe as Christians we need to making our own “pots of chili” to share. We need to be ministering to our hurting friends, unsaved neighbors and the homeless down the street. If we begin to do more of these things in the name of Christ, we then earn a new friend and then have an open opportunity to minister to them and share Jesus’ love with them.
. . . ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Matthew 25:35-36
The world-renowned physician Dr. Ben Carson, who spoke openly before the president at the National Prayer Breakfast earlier this year was the Keynote Speaker at the Vitae Foundation’s Pro-Life Benefit Dinner.
He encouraged the crowd to grow a backbone and have a spine to speak the truth and to not be politically correct. He went on to say that there is no one that we can afford to throw away and every life is beautiful and deserves to be treated with respect.
What can you do to make a difference? Let’s start by getting educated. Read Dr. Carsons book, America the Beautiful, Rediscovering What Made This Nation Great. Let’s see what we can do to turn this nation around.
Alexis Tocville said,
“America is great because America is good.
If America ceases to be good, it will cease to be great.”
I believe there is no way America can be good while innocent little baby boys and girls continue to die.
