In preparation for Prayer on the Hill and the upcoming Awakening Freedom Tour in Kansas I have researched many exciting facts about Kansas that we can be proud of. Of course, we know that Kansas was a free state and helped many slaves escape to freedom. What I wasn’t aware of was just how many African American heros stood their ground over the years against the KKK and segregation.
There was a terrible silent movie made in 1915 that portrayed the KKK in a positive light. The movie was banned in Kansas while the Democratic President Woodrow Wilson showed it at the White House.
The KKK was outlawed in Kansas. Governor Allen a Republican declared there would be no such nonsense in Kansas; and ordered AG Richard Allen to file suit to oust the Klan from Kansas. It didn’t happen without a fight but righteousness prevailed in Kansas.
