More than twenty-one centuries ago, the Holy Land was ruled by the (Syrian-Greeks), who sought to forcefully Hellenize the people of Israel. Against all odds, a small band of faithful Jews defeated one of the mightiest armies on earth, drove the Greeks from the land, reclaimed the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and rededicated it to the service of G-d.
When they sought to light the Temple’s menorah they found only a single cruse of olive oil that had escaped contamination by the Greeks; miraculously, the one-day supply burned for eight days, until new oil could be prepared under the right conditions.
To commemorate Hanukkah began.
On Hanukkah daily prayers are offered in praise and thanksgiving to G-d for “delivering the strong into the hands of the weak, the many into the hands of the few… the wicked into the hands of the righteous.”
The Lord tells us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Israel is the apple of God’s eye. This Thanksgiving, let’s understand this celebration & miracle.
While I’ve been studying the spiritual history of Kansas, one man stands out clearly. President Dwight Eisenhower. He did many great things as president and was responsible for putting the words, “Under God” in our pledge of allegiance and signed the law to make “In God We Trust” our National motto.
At a Flag Day speech in 1954, he said, “In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America’s heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country’s most powerful resource in peace and war.”
He also said, “Democracy is nothing in the world but a spiritual conviction, a conviction that each of us is enormously valuable, because of a certain standing before our God. Now, any group that binds itself together to awaken all of us to these simple things…is, in my mind, a dedicated, patriotic group that can well take the Bible in one hand and the flag in the other, and march ahead.”
Kansans, we need to pray that our kids will be taught the true history about these hero’s of Kansas.
At the Pastors & Pews Conference I attended last week, I learned that our military has put ridiculous restrictions on our chaplains.
Were you aware that our military chaplains cannot have a Bible on their desk? Also, recently they were informed that they would have to perform homosexual marriages. The army has undermined all it’s values for “tolerance.” Now we can’t even give our opinion. We must work to stop the repression of Christian Faith. We need to speak out and step up to the challenge. A law suit has been filed for discrimination.
Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council recently said, “The government is on a search & destroy mission as far as our religious freedom.”
Please pray for our nation, our military and our men and women from Kansas who are serving in the military. Pray that they will stay strong, remember their values, and most of all their creator.
I just returned from two powerful conferences. The first conference I attended was in South Carolina called The Pastors and Pews Conference. I heard Senator Ted Cruz, Pastor Laurence White, Bob McEwen spoke and still the message was there is Hope, and our HOPE is in the Lord.
In Indianapolis Dave Butts, Chairman of the National Prayer Committee, encouraged us saying “God has chosen to use prayer to change things on the planet.”
Kansas, it’s time to step it up. As humbling as it is, He’s decided to use you and me. Once again I’m asking you to mark your calendars for January 13th and come to Topeka and attend Prayer on the Hill. We will be launching prayer and fasting for real change.
Prayer on the Hill is simply Christians coming to Topeka and praying at the capitol during the legislative session. We welcome Christians from across the state of Kansas from different churches and ministries. We walk through the capitol and seek the Lord for righteousness to rule here. If there are committee hearings, we ask that you attend them and sit in the back and pray. If the House or Senate is in session, please send part of your team to the Gallery to intercede for Truth (God’s will). Righteousness Shall Reign in Kansas
